More Than “Good”

Imagine that you are one of the altar servers being in front: ringing the bell during the entrance, helping the mass celebrant to make his tasks easier, and making the celebration meaningful, or maybe try to imagine you are a volunteer in an outreach program: entertaining your partners, teaching them, and giving them the donations that would mean so much. It feels something more than “good” right? Well, it really goes beyond “good” because it gives you a sense of mission to help the community’s development.

As Peter said in his book (1 Peter 2:9), “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” Everyone involved in the church can feel the “wonderful light”— that is, the sense of mission— because it is through his teachings that we are enlightened. Children and adults can be seen serving the church through being part of the mass like KOA and liturgy reading. Different activities like: catechism classes, outreach activities, and pilgrimages are some of the things they usually do outside the church, but the sense of mission is still present in them.

Through this, I can say that everyone who is faithful can involve oneself in the sense of mission even if they are not around the church. Being a role model to others starts by applying His teachings and spreading them out to others is a good way to start. However, there can be some problems that can hinder in accomplishing his/her mission, some of these things are the location of the church, which is far away from someone who devotes his time there, and the influence of social media. As of this time, social media can really impact the way we think about our faith.

Yes, having the sense of mission is beyond “good.” It gives us the feeling of doing more, but many hindrances would affect our mission if we entertain it. It is important to stay in our path focused and determined, for the struggle in doing our mission would result into something rewarding.
